Recently my sister and I decided to sell my mother’s home. We sought out two of your realtors, Kevin Hammersmith and Theresa Schaeffer.
Kevin Hammersmith and Theresa Sceaffer have been nothing but helpful, patient, and professional from start to finish. My sister works for FEMA and does not know the first thing about real estate or mortgages. Kevin and Theresa were diligent in explaining each process to her, each document, and all the other facets that coincide with the purchase contract down to the settlement statement. There was one instance where Kevin drove all the day down to Lorton, VA (over an hour each way) in order to get some final signatures needed on the contract from my mother. This was after closing, when an additional condition was presented from the lender.
The house was where my sister and I had grown up. My sister and I rushed to get whatever was left out of the house to prepare for the showings. There were many personal deeply sentimental things that I had missed and Theresa took the time out of her day (without me asking) to gather those things to show what I had missed. This included letters from my Grandmother’s friends and some other mail correspondence from 1905-1925 from my grandmother’s home city of Barcelona, Spain.
Theresa also was completely helpful in getting all of the workers (plumbers, maids, electricians) in and out of the house when needed. It was terribly inconvenient for me to make it out there. Without Theresa’s help and copious amount of time devoted this would not have happened.
There are times where a simple thank you or a handshake and a warm smile just does not indicate the amount of gratitude that one is attempting to convey. I hope this review reaches many. Just really wanted everyone who is reading this to know what caliber of realtors you have working for your company.

I just wanted to take a moment to let you know how pleased I have been with Robin Sylvester. I believe you originally assigned her to a referral of mine and that’s how I came across her name originally. I was very happy with the way she kept me updated and seemed to really stay on top of things. Since then, I have given her a couple referrals and I’m just so impressed how she always responds so quickly to my update requests. Nearly a year ago my son and daughter-in-law decided they really wanted to buy a house so they didn’t even think about using anyone else other than Debbie as their agent. Debbie had shown them several available houses but nothing my pair were interested in. Then one day Debbie showed them a house and after a walk through my daughter-in-law sidled up to Debbie and said “buy me this house.” Done deal.
I called Debbie explaining my decision to sell. Debbie was constantly in touch with me and as Spring was close to arriving she started thinking about what could be done to generate more interest. On June 4th I will celebrate my 30th anniversary as a licensed REALTOR. I was affiliated with two other Brokers (one a franchise¸ the other a small local company) before joining the Long and Foster Ellicott City office in 1996.
Today I had yet another great Long & Foster experience that some might think trivial, but to me it is “huge.”
I have been working with the heirs of the house of a past client of mine who passed away a couple of months ago. Her six children are “named” on the house and, therefore, all of the decisions surrounding the possible listing and sale of the house can not be made by the Executor of the Estate.
Since they all have to “agree,” it soon became apparent that there needed to be a “meeting.” It has been quite an experience trying to coordinate everyone’s schedules to “talk” about it, but we are finally coming together this Saturday.
For many reasons, the family wanted to meet at a “neutral” location and so I suggested that we meet at the Perry Hall office (the most convenient location for all of them). It is truly “huge” that the meeting is going to occur. I am convinced that without the ability for this family to meet in a neutral, professional atmosphere, they would not be able to move forward with what they need or want to do.
Today, I called the Perry Hall office to reserve a conference room for the much anticipated meeting. My request was confirmed with courtesy and a resounding, “Of course, no problem!”
I have utilized many Long & Foster office locations over the years from Queen Anne’s County to Montgomery, Harford, Baltimore, Anne Arundel Counties and more. At every one of them I have been made to feel quite “welcome.” It is so comforting to know that no matter where my business takes me or wherever I am in my travels, I have “a home” at a nearby Long & Foster office to meet with clients or customers, fax or email “documents” or just work on real estate matters.

Our family was in process to make a final decision to either stay where we were or to relocate closer in with less of a commute. We spontaneously decided to go out one Sunday and visit some open house’ in our ideal location. There we met Realtor Mary Jane MacGill during an open house. We found her to be very approachable and easy to talk to about our future plans. Further, during this time we had our current home on the market with another Realtor that did not sell our property and did not even have one open house. Afterwards, we decided to pull the house off the market and rethink the idea to sell or stay. However, Mary Jane kept in touch with us and even sent us information about what was going on in the area. She did all of this and we did not have a contract with her, which really impressed us and showed us that she genuinely cared about helping us. After taking a couple of month’s break from having the house on the market and it not selling we decided to reconnect with Mary Jane and talk about starting the process with her this time. We knew from the minute she drove an hour to get to our home during a storm, and the time that she put in to explain her agreement, along with details as to how she would help us get the home sold that she could help us.
To make a long story short we wanted to relocate, had a house to sell, had found another home we loved that we signed a 30 day contingency to get our home sold, and within “two” weeks, during a not so great market Mary Jane sold our house. Again, in just two weeks. We lived in a really royal area where the housing market had dropped significantly and the location had to appeal to buyers looking for that lifestyle. There were several other homes that were on the market much longer than ours that did not sell. It needs to be known that not only did she get the home sold quickly, but that she had a great marketing plan, had plenty of open houses and got us not one but multiple offers on the home.
Throughout the process the biggest thing that helped us this time was getting Mary Jane because of her experience, great advice, and genuine concern about listening to our needs is just some of the reasons why we are now living in our dream home and great location. We consider Mary Jane to be part of our family now and if we ever decide to go through this again we will work with her. We highly recommend Mary Jane to anyone who is either looking to sell or buy a home.
